Practitioner Professional Boundaries

This page explains professional boundaries for sport psychology, injury psychology, athlete welfare, coach/parent consultation and interdisciplinary high-performance support.

This page is informational and does not replace a signed consent form, professional service agreement, institutional policy or legal advice.

1. Scope of practice

WinMindPerform provides sport psychology, injury psychology, mental skills, athlete welfare, performance support, education and consultation services within the practitioner’s training, competence and ethical boundaries.

2. No guaranteed outcomes

Sport psychology can support readiness, awareness, routines, confidence, communication and coping, but performance, selection, injury recovery, wellness or competitive outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

3. Communication boundaries

  • Communication should normally occur through agreed channels.
  • Responses may not be immediate.
  • Emergency or crisis content should not be sent by routine email, website forms or non-urgent messages.
  • Session scheduling, cancellations and follow-up should follow agreed procedures.

4. Confidentiality and information sharing

Information sharing with coaches, parents, support staff or organisations should be based on consent, service scope, safety needs and professional judgement. Athletes should understand what may be shared, with whom and for what purpose.

5. Multiple relationships and conflicts

Sport environments often include athletes, coaches, parents, managers and institutions. WinMindPerform aims to clarify roles, confidentiality, reporting lines and potential conflicts so that professional boundaries remain clear.

6. Minors and safeguarding

When working with minors, guardian involvement, consent, assent, safeguarding procedures and age-appropriate communication are considered. Confidentiality may be limited by safety, safeguarding and legal obligations.

7. Referral and escalation

Where needs fall outside sport psychology support, such as acute clinical mental health risk, medical emergencies, psychiatric care, abuse, trauma requiring specialist care, legal issues or safeguarding concerns, referral or escalation may be recommended or required.

8. Digital boundaries

Social media, messaging apps, email, video calls and digital tools should be used professionally. Public comments, informal messages and social media contact are not substitutes for consultation or emergency care.

9. Contact

Questions about professional boundaries may be sent to karansportpsy@gmail.com.
